There were 10 monkeys in a cage. In the middle of the cage was a ladder, with a banana hung at the top. The 1st monkey climbed the ladder, as he reached the top he and all the other monkeys were soaked with a hose pipe. When the 2nd monkey started to climb the ladder, as soon as his feet touched the first rung he and all the other monkeys were soaked with a hose pipe. By the time the 3rd monkey went for the ladder, all the other monkeys had had enough and jumped on him, holding him away from the ladder.
5 of the original monkeys were removed, and 5 new ones added. As soon as one of these new monkeys tried to climb the ladder, the original 5 jumped on him. The same when the 2nd new monkey tried to climb the ladder. When the 3rd new monkey tried to climb the ladder all 9 monkeys jumped on him, even though some of them do not know why.
The original 5 monkeys were then removed, with 5 new monkeys being added. As soon as one of these went to climb the ladder, all of 2nd batch of monkeys tried to jump on him, and so it continued. We are left with 10 monkeys in a cage with a banana. None of them will climb the ladder, but none of them know why. None of them were there to experience the hosepipe.
What’s the point of this story? Well life can be like that. Sometimes your friends may ask you to do something that makes no sense. You may not know the reason. Just because your friends are doing it doesn’t mean you should join in. Be individual, don’t be a monkey!
